  1. Huntsville has made its mark on the tech sector after a recent Bureau of Labor report shows that the city has the fifth highest concentration of software developers in the entire country. According to the report, there are 6,540 software developers in the Huntsville metro, comprising 28.39 of every 1,000 jobs in the area. Developers in the Huntsville area are also shown to be taking home an average of $102,600 annually. As of 2021, there were about 1.4 million software developers nationwide.   2. Huntsville City Council discussed a resolution that proposed six new grocery stores for the Huntsville area this week. Marathon Realty Corporation plans to develop, own, and operate each of the stores under the Food City brand and will hire more than 200 employees at each location. Phase I of the plan, which comprises three of the six stores, is projected to be completed within the next three years. Marathon has asked the city to contribute financial assistance to the project's development. (WAFF)
  3. Huntsville company Acquisition Integration will spend $30 million on setting up a maintenance, repair, and overhaul operation at Pryor Field Regional Airport, one of the busiest general airports in the state. The four-phase plan will add 170,000 square feet of hangar and office space, with the operation creating about 250 jobs. The airport is also working to secure grant funding for a new taxiway project, as well as funding for other projects on the airport master plan. (AL.com)

  • Starting today and continuing over the next two weeks, Redstone Arsenal gate guards will be scanning the access cards of all commuters entering the gates. If you need to enter the base, you should be aware of the traffic slowdown. The exercise will happen again from Jun. 1-14. (AL.com)
