  1. Ronnie Scott Cupps, a 40-year-old man from Huntsville, has pleaded guilty to murder charges after using a claw hammer to kill his wife, Teresa Cupps, in October 2022. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison. 2. Huntsville City Councilman Devyn Keith has had his shoplifting trial rescheduled for the second time. He is facing four counts of misdemeanor theft related to shoplifting charges at Huntsville Walmarts in February. The trial, which will be a bench trial without a jury, is now set for Aug. 22 in Madison County district court. Keith has pleaded not guilty to the charges. (AL.com)
  3. Huntsville Utilities (HU) in Alabama is offering energy-saving tips to residents to offset the high costs of cooling their homes during the summer. HU has faced criticism for high energy rates in recent years. The utility suggests using air conditioning units sparingly, using ceiling and floor fans, keeping blinds shut, and shutting doors to retain cool air. They also recommend getting HVAC units serviced, setting thermostats at recommended temperatures, and minimizing cooking during peak heat. HU advises customers to monitor their energy usage online and contact them for any billing concerns. (WHNT News 19)
