Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:
- Madison County will soon be getting its first in-patient mental health crisis care facility for children and teens. Construction began earlier this week on the 12,000 square foot facility that will be located next to WellStone Emergency Services, which opened last fall. The pediatric facility will offer services such as stabilization, diagnostics, and treatment for children and teens who are experiencing severe depression or anxiety, self-harm, or other mental health-related crises. Construction is expected to be complete by late 2024. (Huntsville Business Journal)
- Six Huntsville nonprofit organizations have been named as recipients of the 2023 Racial Equity Grants by the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville. Among the recipients is Huntsville City Learning Center, which provides after-school learning activities for children in grades K-9. Village of Promise is also set to receive a grant, which will help fund its family connections program. (Rocket City Now)
- Redstone Arsenal has named 15 board members and five advisors to the Team Redstone chapter of the Female Mentoring and Morale Program. The program aims to provide personal and professional development that addresses issues that women commonly face. Col. Clydea Prichard-Brown hosted the first session of this program in March, and she explained that the program seeks to connect with the Redstone Arsenal community as well as organizations in the larger Huntsville community.
