Here are the four top stories in Huntsville today:
- Huntsville's new city hall is already transforming the city's skyline, even while under construction. Construction is progressing according to schedule and is slated to be completed in the spring of 2023. The building will be among the tallest in Huntsville with seven stories. The new location is expected to bring together over 350 city employees and consolidate city offices into a "one-stop shop" for residents. (AL.com)
- A Huntsville man has been indicted in connection with the death of his pregnant girlfriend in January 2022. David Michael McCoy, a former officer with the Huntsville Police Department, has been charged with three counts of capital murder. He is accused of shooting Courtney Spraggins while she was sitting in a vehicle in a parking lot. Last year, prosecutors indicated they would seek the death penalty in this case. (WSB-TV)
- In the wake of the recent deadly tornado in North Alabama, the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board has issued a warning regarding potential scams. The organization's executive director, Chip Carden, explained that a common scam involves fraudulent contractors knocking on doors, asking for a down payment, and then disappearing. Carden is advising people in need of home repairs to ask to see a contractor's license card and proof of insurance. (WAFF 48)
- A Madison County judge has dismissed a lawsuit that protested plans to open a second sports bar in the Clift Farms development. The lawsuit, filed by Jonathan's Grille, alleged breach of contract and promissory fraud, saying that developers were misleading about not having plans for a second sports bar in the development. Attorneys for the developer, Breland Companies, said there were "no contractual obligations" that would prevent a second sports bar. The judge's dismissal was without prejudice, leaving the option for the complaint to be refiled. (AL.com)
