Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:
- Residents in the neighborhood of Sherwood Park are speaking out about late-night noise coming from the Orion Amphitheater. Resident Richard Godwin said that having the entertainment venue so close to his home has benefits, but it can be frustrating when concerts extend into the early morning hours on weekdays. City councilman Bill Kling confirmed that Huntsville's noise ordinance dictates how loud music can be and also dictates an end time for entertainment at 11:00 p.m. A spokesperson for the Orion Amphitheater said they are working with local officials to find a solution, including working with Huntsville Police Officers in the coming days to measure noise levels in nearby neighborhoods with decibel readers. - The City of Huntsville has announced an upcoming intersection closure. The intersection of White Circle and White Street will be closed through Monday, Aug. 21 at 8:00 a.m. for cross-drain and concrete work. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes through the area. (WHNT)
- The Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama has announced a new DIY STEM program. The program's curriculum was created through a partnership with Raytheon and focuses on using everyday objects to learn and explore STEM concepts. Boys and Girls Club of North Alabama President Patrick Wynn explained that the program will help young people gain the education and experience they need to be qualified for careers that are available in Huntsville.
