📰 News we're reading

1. North Huntsville bars band together to blacklist troublemakers across 18 venues (rocketcitynow.com) — North Huntsville bar and restaurant owners are rolling out a shared ID-scanning system that lets 18 venues ban known troublemakers across the entire network, aiming to make nights out safer. Owners say customers already feel more secure, and they expect all participating spots to be fully online in January while inviting more Huntsville businesses to join.

2. Kitchen Cops shut down two north Alabama restaurants during Christmas week (waff.com) — Health inspectors were busy across north Alabama this Christmas week, with one Krystal in Limestone County temporarily shut down for sewage backups and a Burger King on Jeff Road in Harvest cited for multiple sanitation issues. Huntsville-area diners can also see how nearby restaurants in DeKalb and Morgan counties scored, including closures tied to roaches, mold, and temperature violations.

3. Huntsville City Classic: Huntsville rallies past Sparkman to earn spot in finals (al.com) — Huntsville High’s boys basketball team stormed back from 11 points down to edge Sparkman 62–60 and earn a spot in Monday’s Huntsville City Classic championship game. The story also recaps tight wins and losses for Lee-Huntsville, Grissom, Whitesburg Christian, Mae Jemison, and other area teams that local fans will be following.

4. The Army has a new plan to maintain Black Hawk helicopters. Where does Sikorsky fit in? (stripes.com) — Huntsville will host a key U.S. Army conference in mid-February 2026 to brief defense companies on a massive new plan for maintaining and upgrading Black Hawk helicopters. The meeting will help shape how thousands of aircraft are modernized, including potential autonomous and drone capabilities. While much of the work may occur elsewhere, the Redstone Arsenal connection keeps Huntsville central to Army aviation plans.

5. VERIFY: Can you be arrested for doxxing in Alabama? (rocketcitynow.com) — Huntsville residents should know that doxxing—sharing someone’s private information online with intent for others to harass or harm them—can lead to arrest in Alabama. A first offense is a Class A misdemeanor, and repeat violations can become a felony, though protected political speech and official contact info for lobbying are exempt.
