Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Redstone Arsenal is gearing up for its annual street party to celebrate the 248th birthday of the United States Army on Friday, Jun. 10. This year, the local institution will include a cruise-in car show, food trucks and restaurants, a kids play zone, a craft and vendor market, a cake cutting ceremony, music by DJ Slim Robb and Buck'd Up, and a fireworks show. (AL.com)
  2. Huntsville International Airport is in the running to break 2019's record for 1.5 million passengers coming into and out of the airport. Through April, air travel is up by 22 percent over 2022. Quote public relations manager Mary Swanstrom "We're seeing double-digit increases in our capacity. We're seeing about close to 200 flights weekly. We're seeing larger equipment servicing our routes. We're seeing the addition of routes. We recently added Orlando non-stop," Mary Swanstrom, public relations manager, said. (AL.com)
  3. Real estate inventory nationally has increased by 21.5 percent from last year, and the Huntsville-Madison County market is one of the areas that has seen the largest amount of increase. According to the Huntsville Business Journal, "In short; if you're looking to buy, hold off for a while longer. If you're looking to sell, do so while the getting's good." (Huntsville Business Journal)

From my notebook:

  • A Madison County teenager has been convicted of impersonating peace officers throughout Alabama. 18-year-old Logan William Martin stole blue lights from a Madison County Career Tech Law Enforcement vehicle and used them to perform traffic stops as though he were a law enforcement officer — and impersonated peace officers in Limestone County, Madison County, Jackson County, and Lincoln County, Tennessee. (WAAY)
  • The family of the late Ray King, 50 years old, is still pursuing legal recourse for the alleged wrongful death of King in a mistaken raid on the King family home by the Madison County Sheriff's Office five months ago in January. "He always obeyed the law. He never did anything wrong. The only thing he has ever done was go to work and come home. He might go fishing. But he never bothered anybody and he would never hurt anybody," Ruby King, the late King's mother, said. (WAFF)
  • This Is Alabama is bringing us into the week with a picture of Wedowee's Free Library, a small brick building centrally located along Wedowee's main street offering free books on a take-a-book, leave-a-book basis! (This Is Alabama via Instagram)
