🌱 Storms Left Thousands Without Power + Light Up The Sky Event

Hey, everybody. It's Thursday in Huntsville and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on all the most important things happening in the community.

But first, today's weather:

Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:

1. On Tuesday, storms brought heavy winds and rain that left thousands of people in Huntsville and northern Alabama without power. Hundreds of trees were reportedly knocked down, contributing to power outages that occurred in almost every county in the northern part of the state. Huntsville Utilities reported 10 damaged power poles and 26,000 customers who lost power. (WAAY 31)
2. Huntsville Parks and Recreation has announced its first-ever Light Up the Sky event. On Friday, Jul. 21 from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Big Spring Park will host a glow party with family-friendly activities, games, music, and more. Glow sticks will be provided to attendees, as well as chalk for decorating the sidewalk. Once the sun goes down, black lights will illuminate the game area and sidewalk chalk art. (HuntsvilleAL.gov)
3. There are lots of great events happening in Huntsville this weekend! There will be a Food Truck and Trailer Rally on Friday, Jul. 21 at Big Spring Park with over a dozen food vendors to choose from. On Saturday, Jul. 22, The Camp at Midcity will host a jazz brunch with music selections by Black Collar Trio. Also on Saturday, Eddie Griffin will perform at Stand Up Live Huntsville at 6:00 p.m. (Redstone Rocket)
