Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:
- The Huntsville Police Department has arrested two teenagers in connection with a shooting that occurred on Jul. 8. The shooting took place on Pike Place, and there were no reported injuries. The Anti-Crime Team and the Violent Crimes unit worked together to arrest a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old suspect. The teenagers both face charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle as well as drug trafficking due to being in possession of fentanyl at the time of their arrests. (WAFF)
- On Aug. 4, the Huntsville Hospital Foundation's 18th annual Miracle Bash will take place at The Royal at Stovehouse. This event is open to guests 21 and older and will include a silent auction, live music, and games. Funds raised at the event will go towards purchasing medical equipment for sick and premature babies, as well as to support Madison Hospital’s Level II nursery. Funds will also be used to purchase warmers for babies and high-tech beds for infants. Click here to learn more about the event. (WHNT)
- Madison County is experiencing a shortage of volunteer firefighters, and the issue is especially prevalent in nearby Meridianville. Chief of the Meridianville Volunteer Fire Department Brandon Burgess said that the population in the area has doubled, resulting in higher call volumes and more fires. He explained that volunteer departments are stretched thin by responding to calls and managing the daily administrative and financial tasks. (WAFF)
