Ocean Springs veteran Lela Bremen’s dedication to country and community has earned her recognition in the national Veterans of Foreign Wars #StillServing campaign. The campaign honors veterans who continue to serve after active duty.

A U.S. Army veteran, Bremen serves as the first female commander for Post 5699 and in that role has led numerous service projects including food drives resulting in 25,000 pounds of food being donated to the community following a major storm, blood drive and silent auction for a local child facing leukemia and helping veterans in the area as well as throughout the state obtain the health benefits they deserve.

Bremen feels grateful to have found new purpose through leading the Post’s efforts to care for veterans and make a difference in the community, saying she wakes up every morning with a smile on her face and a goal to impact at least one person's life that day.
