1. Mobile's iconic water feature corroding after costly renovation (mynbc15.com) — Ketchum Fountain in downtown Mobile’s Bienville Square is already showing significant rust less than two years after a $3.2 million renovation of the park. City officials plan to bid a roughly $100,000 project after Mardi Gras to fix the corrosion and protect the iconic water feature that draws residents and tourists alike.
   

2. Lawsuit over internet sales taxes pits Mobile city and county against each other (fox10tv.com) — A major lawsuit over Alabama’s internet sales tax system could redirect tens of millions of dollars a year in revenue affecting Mobile’s city and county budgets. Mobile’s mayor has joined other cities seeking a bigger share, while county leaders warn changes could hurt county services and projects, with a key court hearing set for January 21.
   

3. SATCHVAI Band to perform and the Saenger Theatre in 2026 (wkrg.com) — Mobile music fans can look forward to SATCHVAI Band bringing its Surfing With the Hydra 2026 Tour to the Saenger Theatre on April 20, joined by Animal As Leaders. Tickets go on sale Friday, Dec. 12, with options to buy online, by phone, or at the Saenger box office on South Joachim Street.
   

4. Former Yellow Jacket kicker selected for Senior Bowl (wrdw.com) — A standout Iowa kicker will be heading to Mobile to play in the Panini Senior Bowl, one of college football’s longest-running all-star showcases. The January 31, 2026 game brings NFL scouts and decision-makers to Mobile, giving top seniors like Drew Stevens a prime chance to boost their draft stock.
   

5. Okaloosa approves funding to complete SS United States artificial reef project, addresses concerns (getthecoast.com) — A historic 990-foot ocean liner is currently docked in Mobile for final cleanup before it’s sunk off Okaloosa County as the world’s largest artificial reef in early 2026. Okaloosa commissioners just approved extra funding, all from tourism and partners, to finish remediation work, while researchers and filmmakers line up to study and document the ship for years to come.
