American Red Cross assists Woodley Terrace fire victims (wsfa.com) — Residents at Woodley Terrace apartments in Montgomery are getting emergency help from the American Red Cross after a major fire displaced families and claimed lives. Volunteers are providing food, clothing, shelter, medical item replacements, emotional and spiritual support, and even help with funeral costs, while urging Montgomery residents to review fire safety plans and smoke alarms.
   

3. FanDuel launches 'prediction platform' in Alabama. Will it run afoul of the state's gaming laws? (rocketcitynow.com) — Montgomery residents are at the center of FanDuel’s new “FanDuel Predicts” platform, which just launched in Alabama despite the state’s strict gambling laws. The service lets users trade small event-based contracts, including on sports, under a federally regulated futures framework, raising fresh questions about how state officials might treat it under Alabama’s gambling ban.
   

4. Lawmaker wants English-only driver's license exams in Alabama (cbs42.com) — From Montgomery, lawmakers are weighing a bill that would make Alabama’s driver’s license exams English-only, banning interpreters and translation dictionaries for all test sections. Supporters say it will improve safety and communication with examiners, while opponents argue it unfairly restricts non-English speakers who still work and live across the state. The proposal could take effect October 1 if passed next session.
   

5. AAA Alabama warns against drunk driving (wsfa.com) — From Montgomery, AAA Alabama is warning holiday drivers to plan ahead and avoid drunk driving, stressing that even a short trip can end in a DUI or tragedy.
