Benicia Under Excessive Heat Watch Memorial Day Weekend
High temperatures will soar into the upper 90s to near 108 in some areas, the National Weather Service said.
BENICIA, CA — The first triple-digit heat wave of the summer is forecast to arrive in Northern California over Memorial Day weekend.
The National Weather Service early Friday issued an excessive heat watch for Memorial Day weekend that starts at noon Sunday and continues through 8 p.m. Tuesday for the Carquinez Strait and Delta, the southern Sacramento Valley and neighboring areas of Northern California, the National Weather Service said.
Hot conditions with afternoon highs in the upper 90s to 105 degrees are forecast. The hottest afternoons are forecast Monday and Tuesday. Isolated locations may approach 108 degrees on the hottest afternoons in the central and northern Sacramento Valley, the weather service said.

In Benicia, high temperatures are currently forecast to reach 87 degrees on Sunday, 93 on Monday and 82 on Tuesday.
"Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation," weather officials said. "Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes."

Heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke can occur with prolonged exposure to hot temperatures. The most vulnerable include children, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those with chronic ailments, the weather service said.
