Berkeley Apartment Fire Displaces Resident

The resident was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.

BERKELEY, CA — One person was displaced Thursday evening by a fire at an apartment in Berkeley, fire officials said.

The fire was reported about 6:50 p.m. near Channing Way and Martin Luther King Jr Way.

When crews arrived, they found black smoke coming from an apartment in a two-story building, Deputy Fire Chief Keith May said.

The resident was outside when crews arrived, and was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.

No injuries were reported to firefighters and the Red Cross was requested to help the resident displaced.

Fire crews had the fire under control at 7:10 p.m. Estimated damage was reported at $40,000, May said. The cause is under investigation.
