Retail Crime Operation Nets 20+ Arrests In Berkeley

BERKELEY, CA — Ongoing retail theft operations in Berkeley have led to two dozen arrests this month, according to police.

Officials said the retail crime abatement initiative focuses on businesses that shoplifters frequently target. During the first two weeks of November, police said more than $4,000 in stolen property was recovered and 24 people were arrested at three stores.

On Nov. 8, police said an operation at Target netted seven arrests, including allegations of theft, burglary and drug offenses. The next day, an operation at Walgreens resulted in another seven arrests for alleged crimes ranging from theft to probation violations.

On Nov. 12, another operation at Target led to 10 suspects arrested for multiple alleged crimes.

"These operations are a testament to the hard work and collaboration of our officers, local businesses, and other local partners," police said. "Thank you to everyone involved in keeping our community safe and reducing retail theft."
