Suspicious Hole In Berkeley Floor Sparks Investigation, Street Closure

A suspicious hole in the floor of an apartment in Berkeley is being investigations as possible firearm discharge, according to police.

BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley officers cordoned off part of a residential neighborhood on Monday morning after discovering what appeared to be a bullet-sized hole in the floor of an apartment, police said.

Officers responded around 8:25 a.m. Monday to the 1300 block of Gilman Street following a report of a suspicious hole in a residential unit. Preliminary observations raised concerns that it may have been caused by a firearm discharge, the Berkeley Police Department said in a statement.

Efforts to contact the resident of the unit believed to be the source of the damage were unsuccessful, prompting authorities to temporarily close traffic in both directions at Gilman and Curtis streets as a precaution.
