Two Of Four City Council Races Up For Election Remain Undecided

In Berkeley, Districts 4 and 7 incumbents Kate Harrison and Rigel Robinson both ran unopposed allowing each to secure another term.

BERKELEY, CA — Two of four Berkeley City Council districts up for election in that city’s municipal election held Nov. 8, remain undecided as AC Vote, Alameda County's vote counting and reporting agency, continues the process of tallying votes.

Two of the four districts up for election, District 4 and District 7 saw incumbents Kate Harrison and Rigel Robinson running unopposed fast-tracking them to another term on the dais.

Meanwhile, in District 1 incumbent Rashi Kesarwani leads over two challengers, Elisa Mikiten and Tamar Michai Freeman.

According to the most recent numbers released by AC Vote, Kesarwani has secured 1,658 votes or 48.89 percent of the vote with Mikiten coming in with 1,462 votes or 43.11 percent. Freemen has secured 271 votes or 7.99 percent of the vote.

In Berkeley’s District 8, where the winning candidate will replace outgoing Council Member Lori Droste, Mark Humbert holds a commanding lead with 1,853 votes or 66.46 percent, followed by Mari Mendonca with 660 votes or 23.67 percent. Rounding out the results, Peter Bruce Dermont comes in third with 114 votes or 4.09 percent followed by Mary-lee Smith with 93 votes or 3.34 percent and Jay Wu with 68 votes or 2.44 percent.

AC vote has been posting “unofficial results” since the election, so the count as reported has not been finalized with votes still being counted. The next update is expected Friday, Nov. 18.
