Peder Norby Accepts Position with City of Carlsbad

Since 2007, Norby was the Highway 101 coordinator, helping promote the coastal communities and their resources. Prior to that he was head of the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association.

Peder Norby, who earlier this month announced to colleagues that he would be stepping down as Highway 101 coordinator, has taken a consulting position with the City of Carlsbad, according to U-T San Diego

The city council approved his consultation agreement at the meeting Tuesday. The position will reportedly pay Norby as much as $125,000.

Since 2007, Norby was the Highway 101 coordinator, helping promote the coastal communities and their resources. Prior to that he was head of the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association. 

Norby, 50, has been a Carlsbad resident for 31 years, according to the newspaper. His extensive experience promoting the region and his many contacts will be invaluable to the City of Carlsbad, said Mayor Matt Hall. 

Norby will be charged with heading several key projects for Carlsbad, including creating a more walkable downtown area, creating a biking corridor in south Carlsbad, and making beach areas more pedestrian accessible. 

“We want to keep the city thriving, but part of what I want to do is elevate Carlsbad in culture and environmental sustainability,” he told the council.

Norby will continue to serve as a county planning commissioner, according to the newspaper.
