Castro Valley Unified Appoints High School Principal
At its June 22 board meeting, the Castro Valley Unified Board of Education appointed a new Castro Valley High School principal.
CASTRO VALLEY, CA -- At its June 22nd board meeting, the Castro Valley Unified School District Board of Education selected Christopher Fortenberry for the position of principal at Castro Valley High School.
Fortenberry has over 20 years of educational experience, starting at James Logan High School in 2001. During his tenure at James Logan, he invested his time in various aspects of the school community supporting academics and athletics.
He then ventured to CVHS in 2015 as a mathematics teacher. During his tenure, he led the CVHS Varsity Boys Basketball team as head coach developing student athletes in improving basketball skills. He was then promoted to assistant principal and supervised several departments to support teaching and learning, and student safety at CVHS.

He was honored as the recipient of the Administrator of the Year 2022 by the Association of California School Administrators Region 6. He was also nominated as Athletic Director of the Year by North Coast Section, and Teacher of the Year for Curriculum Design.
Fortenberry earned his Master of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from California State University, East Bay. Mr. Fortenberry acted as the Principal Designee during the last two years working closely with Mr. Torpey.

“Please join me in congratulating Mr. Fortenberry as he begins his new journey as the Principal of Castro Valley High School," School District Superintendent Parvin Ahmadi said in a statement. "Mr. Fortenberry has been an integral part of our district’s leadership team, and he will continue to work closely with CVHS staff to ensure that students are provided high quality learning opportunities in a safe and welcoming environment.”
