Co-Op Market Closes, Still Offers Delivery Service

Opened for a little less than seven months, Closest to the Vine closed its shop off Redwood Road this week.

On Monday, announced it would be closing down its brick and mortar store.

After being opened for a little less than seven months, owner Asti Benoit of Closest to the Vine, located at 20654 A Redwood Rd., said the closure comes due to the store's produce not being able to "handle our electical needs nor had adequate AC."

She added that the company moved to a temporary off-site location and will remain there as she launches a box delivery service for Castro Valley.

"We are sorry for those routine shoppers that we gave no notice but it was a matter of 25 of 31 days without AC that made our transition to delivery only happen," Benoit said on Castro Valley Patch's Facebook page.

She added that without a brick and mortar store, she'll be able to maintain, if not lower, their already low prices for organic produce.

She compared Safeway's recently priced $3.29 organic kale chard to her's at $2.47, which gets delivered to Castro Valley residents' doors.
