CVSan: Custodian Recognition Event
CVSan recognized school custodians at the 14th Annual CVSan Custodian Recognition Luncheon at Canyon Middle School on Friday, June 6, 2025.

School custodians go out of their way to help schools reduce waste. Schools in Castro Valley have high recycling and composting or “diversion” rates, averaging 90%, in large part due to the efforts of custodians. Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) recognized school custodians with the 14th Annual CVSan Custodian Recognition Luncheon at Canyon Middle School on Friday, June 6, 2025. All Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) and private school custodians and school administration were invited.
Gift cards were given out to all custodial staff attending and individual awards and gift certificates were given out to the following Custodians:
- The Dan Curry Program of the Year Award: Darrell Lee and Joseph Gomez, Marshall Elementary School.
- The Green Ribbon Partner Award: Mark Carroll, Stanton Elementary School.
- The Good Green Attitude Award: Jordan Hall, Castro Valley Elementary School.
More than 50 people were in attendance, including CVUSD custodians and maintenance staff, CVUSD Board Trustee Gary Howard, CVSan Board Members Ralph Johnson, Timothy McGowan, Dave Sadoff, and Kristy (Dooman) Woerz, as well as CVSan staff.
