More Traffic Expected This Weekend On 580, Palomares Rd, Mission Blvd

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — If you typically use I-580, Palomares Road, or Mission Boulevard, you may have some extra company this weekend. State Route 84, also known as Niles Canyon Road, will be closed in both directions from Friday evening to Monday morning. That is expected put more traffic on local roads as drivers seek alternate routes.

The Highway 84 closure will extend from Palomares Road in Fremont to Main Street in Sunol.

Caltrans scheduled the closure for work on the Alameda Creek Bridge.

During the closure, a contractor will work around the clock to install polyester concrete overlay on the existing Alameda Creek bridge deck in both the eastbound and westbound directions. The work includes removal of existing asphalt concrete surfacing on the deck, preparing bridge deck surface to receive polyester concrete overlay, furnishing polyester concrete, and placing polyester concrete overlay.

Once the concrete is cured, a temporary striping will be placed, and the road will be open to traffic. There will be portable changeable message signs informing drivers of the closure.

Niles Canyon Road will close at 8 p.m. on Friday and is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday.
