4-Car Crash Near Byron Injures 2; 1 Flown To Hospital
One patient was transported to a trauma center by air and another was transported by ambulance, East Contra Costa Fire officials said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA β One person was flown to a hospital and another was transported by ambulance after a four-car collision near Discover Bay on state Highway 4 near Byron Highway on Tuesday evening, according to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene around 7 p.m., they found at least five victims and called for additional medical units.
Three of the patients refused medical care, but two others suffered significant injuries and firefighters went to a nearby elementary school to set up a landing zone for a medical helicopter.

Four vehicles were damaged in the crash, with two sustaining major damage and two sustaining minor damage. The eastbound lanes of Highway 4 were closed by the California Highway Patrol while firefighters worked to clear the roadway.

Information about the cause of the collision was not immediately available.
Discovery Bay: Please use caution on SR4 and Byron Hwy. near the curve for a reported 6 vehicle accident. Fire, EMS and medical helicopters are en route.
