CHP Arrests Driver In Crash That Killed 9-Year-Old Girl

CONCORD, CA β€” The California Highway Patrol Contra Costa Office made an arrest Wednesday in connection with a crash near Concord that claimed the life of a 9-year-old girl.

Jesus Ivan Dorantes, 22, was apprehended Wednesday afternoon and was being held at the Martinez Detention Facility, CHP Officer Adam Lane told Patch.

It is alleged that Dorantes was the driver of a Mazda CX-9 that overturned several times early Sunday morning on northbound I-680 at the 1-242 split in Concord. There were six people in the car and many of them were ejected.

Danna Hernandez Tapia, 9, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

It is alleged Dorantes walked away from the crash site. He remained at large until the CHP caught up with him Wednesday.

"This arrest underscores the CHP's dedication to holding accountable those responsible for senseless tragedies on our roadways," Lane said.

Dorantes was being held on suspicion of multiple charges including manslaughter, felony hit and run, and child abuse. His bail was set at $200,000.
