Concord City Council Weighs Naval Weapons Station Contract

City council members are set to consider spending about $335,000 for an environmental consultant.

CONCORD, CA β€” The Concord City Council on Tuesday will consider spending about $335,000 for a consultant to help address issues of sensitive species and habitats ahead of planned development of the former Concord Naval Weapons Station property. The contract would be with Los Gatos-based H. T. Harvey and Associates, which has been involved with the reuse project since 2009.

The firm has already helped Concord officials develop ways to monitor sensitive habitats and species found on almost 5,000 acres of former weapons station land forecast to become housing, businesses, schools and dedicated open space as part of the City of Concord.

The money would be paid by the reuse project's master developer, Lennar, through the city's reuse agency.

The East Bay Regional Park District will receive 2,600 acres for the future Concord Hills Regional Park.

If this contract is approved Tuesday, total funding for H. T. Harvey and Associates in connection with the land reuse project is approximately $1.77 million.
