Driver Arrested In Wrong-Way, Hwy 4 Alleged DUI Crash ID'd

A father and his young son — as well as the arrested driver — were injured in the head-on collision and remained hospitalized Monday.

ANTIOCH, CA — A man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after crashing head-on into a Dodge Caravan while going the wrong way on state Highway 4 in Antioch on Saturday night, seriously injuring a father and his young son, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Mauricio Meza, 45, of Bay Point, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck the wrong way on eastbound Highway 4 near Lone Tree Way at about 10:30 p.m., CHP officials said.

He crashed head-on into the Caravan, according to the CHP. A father and son in the Caravan both suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital. Meza also suffered life-threatening injuries.

CHP Officer Brandon Correia said Monday that he didn't know if the father and son's condition had improved.

Meza has been arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing major injuries. Correia said Meza remains in the hospital and has not been booked into jail.
