East Bay Transient Hit, Killed by Van
51-year-old Robert Spurling died early this morning after he was hit by a van hit while crossing a road in Concord, police said.

EAST BAY, CA -- A transient man from Concord died early this morning when he was hit by a van hit while crossing the road, police said.
A preliminary investigation shows that the victim was crossing Monument Boulevard around 3:45 am on Friday, Feb. 10 when the van, traveling west on Monument Boulevard at Reganti Drive, hit him.
The driver of the van stayed at the site of the collision and cooperated with officers. The driver did not appear to be intoxicated, police said.

The victim, who died at the scene, was identified as 51-year-old Robert Spurling, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's bureau.
The road was closed for about five hours for police to complete an investigation.
