Fire Destroys Garage, Injures 1, Damages Pittsburg Home
The house was engulfed in flames when Contra Costa County firefighters arrived.

PITTSBURG, CA β A one-alarm residential structure fire destroyed a garage and left much of a home uninhabitable this morning in Pittsburg, according to a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman. The fire was reported around 9:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 4400 block of Palo Verde Drive, and it took crews just under an hour to get it under control by 10:47 a.m., fire spokesman Steve Hill said.
One person was transported to a hospital with smoke inhalation and second-degree burns.
The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Hill said. The garage was destroyed, and the south side of the structure was badly damaged.

It's not yet clear whether anyone was displaced by the blaze, but Hill said the home appears to be uninhabitable as a result of the fire damage. Crews, however, were able to keep the fire from spreading to other nearby homes.
Crews remained on scene after extinguishing the blaze, ripping out the surfaces of the ceilings and walls to ensure that there are no sparks or embers left to re-ignite after firefighters leave.
