Plane Crash Lands In Intersection; Wing Sheared Off During Emergency Landing
At least 1 person was injured Friday afternoon when a small airplane made an emergency landing near Buchanan Field on Solano Way in Concord.
EAST BAY, CA -- At least one person was injured Friday afternoon when a single engine plan made an emergency landing near Buchanan Field on Solano Way in Concord.
Just after reporting a mechanical problem, the small airplane crashed around 2:45 pm just short of the runway at Buchanan Field Airport, a Contra Costa County-owned public-use airfield.

The plane came to rest at the intersection of Solano Way and Marsh Drive.

The pilot, who was the only person on board at the time of the crash, was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident, Gregor said.

This makes at least the second plane crash near the airport in seven months. In October 2016, another single engine aircraft crashed into a hill shortly after takeoff from Buchanan Field.
