Street-Racing Suspect Leads Cops On 2-County Chase From Concord: CHP

As a result of reckless driving, the suspect's Dodge Challenger lost its front left tire and eventually, the front left rim.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA β€” A driver is suspected of street racing Thursday night in Contra Costa County and then leading officers on a high-speed pursuit from Concord to Fairfield, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP, Concord Police Department and multiple other Contra Costa County agencies were working to combat illegal street racing and sideshows when officers initiated an enforcement stop on a Dodge Challenger.

"The Dodge immediately fled from our officers, driving at speeds over 135 miles per hour," the CHP said.

The pursuit started on city streets in Concord and ended on Interstate 80 at Pittman Road in Solano County, Contra Costa CHP Spokesman Adam Lane told Patch.

As a result of the reckless driving, the Dodge lost its front left tire and eventually, the front left rim, Lane said.

The car became disabled and the driver, a 23-year-old Oakland man whose name was not disclosed, was arrested on suspicion of felony reckless evading, driving without a license and an outstanding arrest warrant out of Santa Clara County.
