FREMONT, CA — Police say they're investigating a dog attack at a Fremont Park last month that left another canine dead.

A dog, possibly a Cane Corso or pit bull, was off its leash at Central Park near Lake Elizabeth around 2:40 p.m. on Oct. 23, when it attacked a small dog that was walking on a leash with its owner, the Fremont Police Department said.

"The attack happened so suddenly — the big dog came running at full speed and bit Cheese without letting go," one of the small dog's owners said in a post on social media on Monday. "My mom screamed and tried to pull them apart, but the dog wouldn’t release him.
