Fremont Police Warn Of Holiday Season Scams

"Does it sound too good to be true? It is," police said in a statement Wednesday.

FREMONT, CA — Fremont police are alerting community members to be on the lookout for scams as the holiday season gets closer.

Here are a few tips from the Fremont Police Department:

  • Be aware that some scammers make fake websites to sell knock-off merchandise or nothing at all.
  • Be skeptical of advertisements online that offer incredibly low prices.
  • Look for reviews and reports of scams from any website you're buying from.
  • Anyone who is pushing you to pay with wire transfers, gift cards or electronic currency, such as bitcoin, may be trying to scam you.

"If you're on the lookout for deals this holiday season, take a second to make sure any online purchases you're making are on reputable websites," the Fremont Police Department said. "Does it sound too good to be true? It is."

The public service announcement comes less than a week after Fremont police warned community members of scammers impersonating officers.

"Our officers will never call from the non-emergency line to request for information or to solicit money," the Fremont Police Department said last week. "If you receive such a call, hang up!"
