FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) once again exceeded both state and county averages in English, math, and science proficiency in the 2023-24 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, according to data released by the California Department of Education on Thursday.

While overall district-wide scores saw small decreases compared to the previous year, FUSD students continued to perform well above average.

  • In English Language Arts, 73.8 percent of FUSD students met or exceeded standards —significantly higher than Alameda County’s 55.4 percent and California's 47.0 percent.
  • In mathematics, 69.0 percent of Fremont students reached proficiency, compared to 46.8 percent countywide and 35.5 percent statewide.
  • In science, 59.3 percent of students met or exceeded standards, outperforming the county's 40.8 percent and the state's 30.7 percent.

"We are incredibly proud of our students and educators for their continued success," said Superintendent Erik Burmeister. "These results highlight their resilience and hard work, but they only capture a fraction of what our students accomplish each day in and out of the classroom."

Participation in the assessments was also high, with nearly 98 percent of eligible students completing their exams.

According to the district, FUSD's performance underscores its ongoing commitment to meeting students’ academic, social, and emotional needs, especially as schools continue to adapt after the pandemic's disruption.

The district's performance will be incorporated into the California School Dashboard, providing a more comprehensive view of school progress when it is updated in December.
