'Inspiring' Documentary Exploring Homelessness Solutions To Screen In Fremont

The producers will screen the movie then then go deeper into how it relates to the location they are visiting, a city official said.

FREMONT, CA — An "inspiring" documentary that explores solutions to homelessness will be screened in Fremont Thursday evening, Alameda County officials said.

The film, titled "Beyond the Bridge," shows how communities around the United States are finding creative ways to address homelessness.

The movie will be shown from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Washington Hospital West. Anyone looking to attend must RSVP. Don Sawyer, the film's producer, and Tim Hashko, the cinematographer, will speak about the movie following the screening, county officials said.

The event is part of a campaign where Don Sawyer, the film's producer, and Tim Hashko, the cinematographer, go around the country and screen their movie before going deeper into how it relates to the city they are visiting, Kathy Kimberlin, a field director in Alameda County and Fremont city councilmember, told Patch.

A panel made up of county officials, along with community leaders and businesses, will follow the event, Kimberlin said.

Kimberlin says she is hosting the film with the intent to start a new conversation among community members in the Tri-City and learn how everyone can help the area support its homeless community and achieve its goals in the Homelessness Response Plan.

"A City cannot do it alone, one organization cannot do it alone; we are stronger together," Kimberlin said.
