Gilroy Police Make Arrest In Dec. 2020 Fatal Hit-And-Run

GILROY, CA — Gilroy police arrested a man Wednesday on suspicion of a fatal hit-and-run incident from nearly a year ago.

Jose Elias Zuniga, 38, was charged with vehicular manslaughter in a Dec. 6, 2020 incident when a man out for an afternoon walk was struck while walking on Broadway, east of Wayland Lane in the unpainted crosswalk, sustaining fatal injuries.

Zuniga was suspected of striking the victim from behind and not stopping to render aid.

It took nearly 11 months for police to obtain a search warrant for Zuniga’s arrest.
