Mammoth Mountain Reopens After Avalanche

The popular ski resort is back open after an avalanche swept through the mountain Saturday.

MAMMOTH LAKES, CA -- The popular ski resort, Mammoth Mountain, reopened Sunday following an avalanche that injured several people. Resort officials said the avalanche came down around 10:15 a.m. Saturday and caught eight people, six of whom were employees.

In a statement, officials said some of the employees, who pulled themselves out of the snow, sustained minor injuries. The two guests who were caught in the avalanche were freed without injury.

The avalanche traveled down Upper Dry Creek and terminated at the bottom lift terminal of High Five Express, while patrol "was performing routine avalanche mitigation work in a closed area," the resort said.
