Passenger Killed In Crash Near Gilroy Identified
The fatal collision happened Monday on northbound U.S. Highway 101 just south of Old Monterey Road.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — A 56-year-old man who died in a car crash near Gilroy on Monday morning has been identified as Juan Sosa Santos of Castroville, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office. California Highway Patrol officers responded to the crash at 7:55 a.m. on northbound U.S. Highway 101 just south of Old Monterey Road.
A man was driving a 2012 Ford van behind a 2018 Peterbilt big-rig when he failed to notice the big-rig was driving slower and crashed into its trailer, according to the CHP.
The force of the collision pushed the Ford van into another lane, where it crashed into a 2005 Ford Explorer.

Santos was a passenger in the Ford van, and died due to his injuries. The Ford van driver, another passenger and the big-rig driver had minor injuries, according to the CHP. The Ford Explorer driver was uninjured.
Officers do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Officer Brandon Diaz at 408-848-2324.
