Program Aimed At Strengthening Families Launches In Gilroy Friday

This free class is designed for parents with children up to 3 years old who want to learn about parenting resources and methods.

GILROY, CA -- It takes resilience to keep a family healthy and happy together. It helps to have help.

The Santa Clara County Social Services Agency has teamed up with advocate Sacred Heart Community Service to offer a new, free parent-education program focused on strengthening families in the region.

The Resilient Families education program is offered to parents and caregivers of children up to 3 years old. It provides parents and caregivers the tools they need to nurture their young children and support their child’s early development.

The kick-off events are slated from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for Jan. 11 at the Gilroy Library at 350 W. Sixth St. and on Jan. 18 at Sacred Heart Community Service at 1381 S. First St. in San Jose.

Representatives from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, the county's Department of Family and Children’s Services, Sacred Heart Community Service and Santa Clara University have been invited.

The community partnership and parent education program represent a collaborative effort to strengthen family functioning, support child safety and enhance well-being in the family and larger community. The neighbor-to-neighbor workshop approach enables parents to strengthen their nurturing parenting skills and promote a healthy sense of attachment between parents and children.
