Transient Arrested On Suspicion Of Rape In Shelter

The victim told sheriff's deputies her family had been helping the man with supplies to survive the winter.

GILROY, CA -- A transient man was arrested Wednesday on allegations of sexual assault of a woman in a San Martin shelter at about 6:30 p.m., the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday.

The victim, a female adult, reported to deputies that she was recently raped by Sharwian Bobian, a 43-year-old man she claims her family provided assistance to given his lack of means living on the streets. Over the past several months, the family had provided Bobian with food, toiletries and a heater to help him survive the colder weather.

The victim visited Bobian at his regular makeshift shelter on Llagas Avenue for the purpose of delivering food and supplies. The shelter was assembled with a series of tarps and shopping
carts.
