Here are the top three stories today in Healdsburg:

  1. In response to escalating fire risks amid dry conditions, Permit Sonoma Fire Prevention Division has imposed a ban on outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of Sonoma County. The prohibition, in sync with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's state-wide ban effective from Jul. 3, covers outdoor residential fires in several counties, including Sonoma, Lake, Napa, Solano, Yolo, and Colusa. The ban, which includes the incineration of landscape debris such as branches and leaves, is a proactive measure to mitigate potential fire threats due to parched grass and a hotter climate. 2. A family of 14, stranded for two hours on Lake Sonoma due to a boat malfunction, was successfully rescued by Sonoma County Sheriff's deputies. The family, who had no cell service, managed to flag down a patrol boat for assistance. Social media images reveal the relieved family being transported by authorities to a public ramp, with the sheriff's office tweeting, "They were very happy to see us!" (KTVU)
  3. The Healdsburg Museum, in collaboration with the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians, has been bestowed with the "Excellence in History Leadership" award by the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH). The honor is one of 51 national awards this year by the AASLH, recognizing exceptional work and leadership in state and local history. Sherrie Smith-Ferri, the guest curator, and Museum ED/Curator Holly Hoods will represent the project at the AASLH annual conference in September to accept the award.
