Here are the top 3 stories in Healdsburg today:
- If you saw some smoke nearby yesterday, it was probably the controlled burn firefighters were staging at the rural Pepperwood Preserve to our east — reportedly covering 27 acres between Windsor and Calistoga. “We know this is really concerning to our community however there are numerous resources on site managing this burn,” fire officials wrote online. And there are a couple more burns coming up in Healdsburg later this week, according to the Northern Sonoma County Fire District. The first is an 11-acre burn on Friday at Rio Lindo Academy along the crook of the Russian River near Digger's Bend (because the one last week was canceled), and the second is an 8-acre burn on Saturday at the Villa Commons right next door. - Something else to look out for this Thursday and Friday! City crews will be "performing roadway striping maintenance and improvement work" at various intersections throughout Healdsburg, officials say. Here's where the work will be happening: the intersection of March and Lupine; Chiquita Road near the 101 freeway "undercrossing"; Healdsburg Avenue near Simi Winery; Healdsburg Avenue between Ward and Front streets; and Healdsburg Avenue from Dry Creek Road to Powell Avenue. The city asks that you "please use caution in these areas." (City of Healdsburg via Facebook)
- The Press Democrat has a great writeup on the couple behind the increasingly popular Sangsan Healdsburg pop-up (see "pic of the day" below!). From the story: "Chefs Ploypailin Sakornsin and Jeremy Kuo fell in love while working in the kitchen of SingleThread Farm-Restaurant-Inn, a three Michelin-starred restaurant with five guest rooms in Healdsburg. 'We were secretly dating, but the secret didn’t work,' said Sakornsin, 30, who grew up in Bangkok and did her externship at SingleThread while studying at the Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park, New York." Last year, the PD reports, "they took a leap of faith and started serving the street food of their homelands, Thailand and Taiwan, at various pop-ups at restaurants, bars, wineries and farmers markets." And "now, with the summer season in full swing, the couple can be found cooking fragrant Asian fare at the Healdsburg Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and at Healdsburg’s popular Tuesday on the Plaza concert series in the evenings."
