Hello and happy Hump Day! I'm back with your hot, fresh edition of the Healdsburg Daily, full of all the most important things happening in town these days. Enjoy...
First, your daily weather:
- Wednesday: Mostly sunny with some high clouds and strong winds. High: 85 Low: 56.
- Thursday: Heating up! Mix of sun and clouds. High: 92 Low: 63.
Heads up: We've got something of a mini heat wave on the horizon here! Weather officials have issued an "excessive heat watch" for this Friday, when the high temp is supposed to push past 100. Air over Healdsburg:

Here are the top 4 stories today in Healdsburg:
- Sonoma County's election results have been rolling in since polls closed last night for the 2022 California Primary. It appears many ballots have yet to be counted. But so far, these candidates are in the lead: Gavin Newsom for governor; Alex Padilla for U.S. senator; Healdsburg's own Mike McGuire for state senator; James Gore, also hailing from Healdsburg, for our seat on the county's board of supervisors; Amie Carter for county school superintendent (but Brad Coscarelli isn't too far behind); Eddie Engram for sheriff; Lahnee Chen for state controller; Shirley Weber for secretary of state; Eleni Kounalakis for state lieutenant governor; Rob Bonta for state attorney general; and Ricardo Lara for state insurance commissioner. You can find more live results on Patch or the New York Times. (Patch & Patch & NYTimes; paywall)
- Move over, Montage: Yet another luxury hotel is in the works out in the Healdsburg countryside. The new "food-focused" hotel, a project of famous local chef Charlie Palmer and Four Seasons vet Christopher Hunsberger, will be called "Appellation Healdsburg" and is set to open around "harvest 2023." It will part of the new "North Village" neighborhood taking shape at the north end of town, right across Healdsburg Avenue from the Montage. Along with Appellation, the development will also reportedly include a "retail promenade" with shops and cafes, a "Zen-inspired senior living community" called Enzo Village and some other "affordable housing." Here are some specs on Appellation itself: It will be a "108-key hotel" with a "signature Charlie Palmer restaurant and rooftop bar," a luxury spa, two "pool experiences," a fitness center, fruit orchards, an olive grove, a "stunning event grange," a front desk that "looks like a butcher block," a reception area "surrounded by a wine wall," a lobby with "interactive" food prep stations,"maker spaces" where guests can take cooking and art classes, and "generous guestrooms looking out into rolling hills" with "gourmet pantries" in lieu of mini bars. The hotel's event space will also reportedly "double as a farmer's market on a weekly basis." You can see renderings of the whole grand vision on the Appellation website. - Down at the other end of town, construction has begun on some new Mill District housing. Healdsburg city officials posted the following notice: "Please be advised that construction activities are planned beginning [this] week at 131, 151, and 171 Sawmill Circle, Healdsburg, CA 95448 which will take place approximately from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Construction activities will follow the City of Healdsburg’s community noise ordinance. This advisory pertains to the 4-story condo project, comprised of 43 units. The project will include shoring and pile driving activity, one level of below-grade parking with three buildings that are four stories of housing and have been designed to enhance the streetscape of Healdsburg Ave. The pile driving will start [this] week and continue to the end of the month. For inquiries please call (602) 478-4631." (City of Healdsburg via Facebook)
- I just learned that Healdsburg's vice mayor, Ariel Kelley, went on a 10-day educational trip to Israel last month with a group of 17 other "Bay Area elected officials and community leaders." The trip was led by the local Jewish Community Relations Council. From a trip recap published by J. Weekly: "Kelley, who is Jewish, said she went on the trip to seek possible solutions for issues her town faces. As a rural, agricultural community, Healdsburg deals with the challenges of wildfire and drought, as well as having enough affordable housing. 'All of those same issues impact local folks in Israel,' said Kelley, who reported being a target of a few critical tweets when she returned. 'It was really great to hear some of their innovations and the solutions that they’ve come up with to continue to be able to have a thriving community, even though they’re really limited in terms of some of their resources.'” (J. Weekly)

- Speaking of fire season! County leaders warn that "it’s that time of year when PG&E may need to shutoff our electricity." They're recommending you "keep your gas tank at least half full" in preparation, as "gas stations without electricity may not be open." (Sonoma County Emergency Management via Facebook)
- On that note, an update from PG&E on their initiative to bury 10,000 miles of power lines to "keep customers safe and reduce wildfire risk."
