- The Healdsburg City Council meeting this coming Monday is going to be an interesting one, if you're into that kind of thing. The meeting will include the usual update on Healdsburg's drought and water situation; a presentation of the final draft of the city's Urban Water Management Plan, which councilmembers will be asked to sign off on, once and for all; a pitch from a consultant who wants to provide "consulting services associated with groundwater supply wells & acquirer storage & recovery" to the city; the consideration of a proposal to turn Healdsburg's L&M Motel into "interim housing" for the down-and-out; and more. You can always watch these meetings live on the City of Healdsburg's Facebook page, FYI. (Facebook & City of Healdsburg)
- There are murmurs going around about a long-term weather forecast just released by the National Weather Service, predicting a big storm next week that could "potentially" end wildfire season earlier than expected in Sonoma County. But in order for that to happen, at least 2 inches of rain would have to fall, meteorologists tell the Press Democrat — and "that's not very likely." As meteorologist Brayden Murdock says: "Usually these systems translate into drizzle for us. I don’t want to get anybody’s hopes up." Here's to hoping, though! (SF Gate & Press Democrat; paywall)
- Healdsburg woman-about-town Regina Duman Jones passed away earlier this month at the age of 82. According to her obituary, Regina "flourished as a single mother" in Healdsburg after moving here in 1975, becoming a "self-taught, award-winning baker/cake decorator" while running "a home-based daycare business for many years, where she became a mother figure to dozens of children, as well as a cherished friend to their parents." She later owned a "successful bakery and ice cream shop," her obituary says, and "her cakes were a beloved staple in the lives and celebrations of many Sonoma County families and businesses." You may have seen her on one of her many walks around Fitch Mountain. R.I.P. (Legacy.com)
- Looking for some good local haunted houses to stop by this Halloween? The Press Democrat has been crowdsourcing a haunted house map for Sonoma County, and the inventory is growing. Currently there are three houses mapped in Healdsburg: One on University Street, one on Linda View Drive with a "scary clown" theme and another on Fitch Mountain featuring "Mr. 'Jack Pumpkin' the metal stick figure man & Miss Maggie the Scarecrow & more!" There are also a bunch more down in Windsor and Santa Rosa, if you're feeling ambitious. You can add your own haunted house to the map as well. (Google Maps & Press Democrat; paywall)
- We're way behind on Healdsburg police logs! The last two weeks' worth of incident reports from the Healdsburg Police Dept. include a female driver on Foss Creek Court jumping out of her car and calling her child a “devil child"; a drunk hit-and-run on Dry Creek Road; someone who called the police to complain that everyone was "blowing through" a stop sign on Grove Street; another caller who reported a person walking by their East Street bedroom window with "an exposed buttocks," and recommended they receive counseling; a woman at a Matheson Street business who refused to wear a mask, and also refused to leave; an alleged handicap placard theft on Vine Street; a man seen "smashing out a car window with an aluminum ramp" on Healdsburg Avenue, then arrested on a felony warrant from the Clearlake Police Department; and a pedestrian hit by a car in the Healdsburg Avenue roundabout. For that last one: The pedestrian "was lying in the street" but was "awake, breathing and able to talk," according to police. Hope he's OK! (SoCoNews Healdsburg & SoCoNews Healdsburg)
