Here are the top 3 stories in Healdsburg today:

  1. The next water and wastewater bills you receive from the City of Healdsburg will likely be around 15 percent higher than usual, thanks to a recent rate increase approved by the City Council, the Healdsburg Tribune reports. The increase per household will start small — but will rise by as much as 50 percent over the next four years, in "incremental year-by-year increases." A city rep explains to the Trib that "we delayed the rate increases due to Covid, and wastewater rates have not been increased since 2015. Also, the drought has had a significant impact on the water department’s operating revenues. This alone required changes to the existing rate structures in order to maintain safe and reliable drinking water." There are a bunch of nuances as to which types of homes will pay how much more, over what period of time — so click through to the Trib for the dirty details. (Healdsburg Tribune)
  2. It looks like Glaydon J de Freitas Filho, who was hired as the CEO of local nonprofit Corazón Healdsburg in the fall of 2020, quietly left the position about a month ago. "Yesterday was my last day as the CEO of Corazon!" he wrote on LinkedIn at the time. "What a beautiful journey we had. Now it's time for a new chapter. Thank you corazon, community, and staff who worked with me in these 2 years to build a more compassionate and just community. We advanced a lot. Thank you!" I can't find any mention of his departure — or a potential replacement — on the Corazón Healdsburg website. Naturally, neighbors in the "What's Happening Healdsburg" Facebook group have been wondering what's going on. I'll let you guys know if I get any additional info! (LinkedIn & Corazón Healdsburg & Facebook Groups)
  3. A colorful new mushroom mural has popped up at the Healdsburg Community Center — a happy outcome of this week's street art-themed summer camp for kids aged 10 to 17, run by the Healdsburg Center for the Arts. It turned out as kind of a trippy, Yellow Submarine-esque fungi landscape in reds and pinks and greens and blues. "Kudos to Ash Weiss and her students for creating such a beautiful art installation for our community," center leaders say. They just shared some pics of the finished product on Facebook — check 'em out. (Healdsburg Center for the Arts via Facebook)
