Air over Healdsburg:

Here are the top 3 stories in Healdsburg today:
- The dramatic case of a "former Healdsburg official who is accused of assaulting two teenagers in what they said was a racist attack outside his home" in summer 2020 goes to county court this week, starting with pretrial motions from both sides this afternoon. Jeff Civian, former head of the city's planning commission, is accused of holding two local Latino 15-year-olds "at gunpoint after they stepped onto his porch to take photos, thinking the home was empty," according to the Press Democrat. "Authorities also allege that Civian pressed down on one’s neck, and when the teen told the man he could not breathe, Civian told him to 'shut ... up, you are not George Floyd.'" The man's attorneys argue in defense that "It was twilight, the front lights were off, his home was ‘for sale’ with a for sale sign out front, figures were on his front porch and he did not know why. Fearing the worst and knowing that his next-door neighbor’s home had been burglarized a few months before, Mr. Civian acted to protect himself and his wife." You can read more of both arguments in the PD. (Press Democrat; paywall)
- The official lineup for the 24th annual Healdsburg Jazz Festival, coming to town this June, is now live! Tickets for Healdsburg Jazz members went on sale Sunday, and they open to the general public this Friday. "We’re thrilled to be back with a full week of jazz in Healdsburg’s beautiful, wine country settings," organizers say. "Appearing in the Festival will be artists from a wide array of genres, including NEA Jazz Master Dave Holland, blues legend Charlie Musselwhite, and San Francisco vocal star Bobi Céspedes." Local venues for the shows include the Hotel Healdsburg courtyard and bar, the Little Saint restaurant, the Healdsburg plaza, the Elephant in the Room pub, St. Paul's Church, the Healdsburg Farmers Market parking lot and more. And the whole thing culminates on Sunday, June 19 with a free "Juneteenth Celebration in the Healdsburg Plaza with Willie Jones III Quintet, MJ’s Brass Boppers, the Curtis Family C-notes, poets Enid Pickett and Kamau Daáood, KCSM’s Greg Bridges, educational areas, vendors and more," plus a Father’s Day concert that night at Truett Hurst. - The county's criminal case against PG&E for their alleged role in 2019's devastating Kincade Fire, which caused mass evacuations from Healdsburg, has reportedly ended in a settlement of just over $20 million "in payments to local institutions." This is on top of $31 million the utility has already paid in damages to Sonoma County and the cities of Santa Rosa, Windsor, Cloverdale and Healdsburg — and $125 million to the state — in response to the Kincade fire, which was "sparked by a piece of faulty equipment and burned more than 77,000 acres," the PD reports. However, this new settlement does not include "any funds for those who lost homes, ranch buildings and other properties and PG&E did not admit guilt to any crimes as a result of the fire." To that end, another civil case against PG&E is coming up this fall. (Healdsburg Patch & Press Democrat; paywall)
