Pet Goldfish Survive CA Wildfire; Owners Sought
Twelve living goldfish were rescued from the debris of a wildfire that scorched through Northern California.
SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- Twelve living goldfish were rescued in Sonoma County after a wildfire scorched through the region earlier this year. The Mercury News reported that the rescuers are trying to find the owners of the goldfish that somehow survived.
"In the middle of the torched wasteland that was once their Santa Rosa neighborhood — at the bottom of a pool of black, sludgy water — Logan Hertel and his friends spotted a tiny miracle," The Mercury News reported. "Now, more than two months after the fires, Hertel and his friends and family haven’t given up trying to reunite the fish with their owners."
The fire that raged through the region was one of four in Northern California that burned in October. In total, 44 people were killed and more than 9,000 structures were destroyed. The wildfires, along with others in Southern California, made up the state's worst wildfire season on record.
