Here are the top 5 stories today in Healdsburg:

  1. Residents affected by the Walbridge Fire out Mill Creek Road say they — and local redwoods — are reportedly being terrorized by PG&E maintenance and logging crews. (NPR)
  2. Healdsburg resident Stephen Lewis Cotler, 77, a children's book writer and father of "Bridgerton" author Julia Quinn, died in a car crash last month "because a catering company did not secure their load and canvas bags spilled onto the highway." His other daughter Violet was killed in the crash as well. (Mercury News)
  3. A new tasting room for Marine Layer Wines is set to open in August right next to the Downtown Bakery on the plaza. Their wines reportedly "highlight the flavors that come with grapes that are grown on the rugged and foggy Sonoma Coast." (SoCoNews Healdsburg)
  4. It hasn't even opened yet, but Healdsburg's mysterious Zen-meets-Quaker spiritual senior housing experiment Enso Village has been named "Best Senior Housing Community" by Builder Magazine. Judges note the project's "quiet, unapologetic Northern California brand of intentionality in function and form." The center is set to open in late 2022 on Allan Court. (PRNewswire)
  5. Another big-city travel blogger passed through Healdsburg recently — this time, to take a 45-minute hike at 110-year-old Warnecke Ranch on Chalk Hill Road that ends with a wine tasting (of course). Featuring yellow grasses, rock doves, Russian River vistas and plenty of rosé. (SF Gate)
