SONOMA COUNTY, CA —A woman fought off a man who tried to assault her sexually this week in Santa Rosa, prompting police to issue a safety advisory.
The incident happened around 1 a.m. Monday as the woman was walking near Marlow Road and Jennings Avenue, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Patricia Seffens said.

Detectives were working to locate witnesses and video evidence to provide the public with a more complete description of the suspect, Seffens said Thursday.

The Santa Rosa Police Department provided the following ways for females to stay safe from potential predators while walking at night.
- Stay in well-lit, busy areas. Avoid isolated or dark spots, especially alleys and side streets.
- Walk with a friend. There’s safety in numbers. Try not to walk alone after dark.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Stay alert and avoid distractions like phones or headphones.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, take a different route or seek help immediately.
- Have a plan. Share your route and estimated arrival time with a friend or family member.
"Your safety is our priority," Seffens said. 'Stay alert, stay connected, and look out for one another."
