Here are the top 5 stories today in Healdsburg:

  1. After months of hype, Healdsburg restaurant Little Saint — a "new food, arts, music and community space at the former Healdsburg SHED" space on North Street — finally has an opening date. According to Sonoma Mag, "The owners of the 10,000-square-foot multi-purpose building in downtown Healdsburg announced in a press release Wednesday that they anticipate opening Little Saint in February 2022. (It was previously slated to open this fall, but the pandemic and subsequent supply chain disruptions delayed the opening.)" Click through for all the big names just announced in the kitchen and more on the owners' grand vision. (Sonoma Magazine)
  2. CBS News published a play-by-play this week of the tense vaccination debate that went down at Monday's Healdsburg City Council meeting. Basically, public commenters called in to support unvaccinated councilmember Skylaer Palacios, who herself had to call in remotely, and argued that the new vaccination mandate for city meetings is fundamentally racist. Palacios, the youngest and only Black councilmember, compared the mandate to "Jim Crow-era laws." Her fellow city leaders pushed back, calling the narrative "disturbing" and pointing out that "our African American residents are the highest-vaccinated population demographic in Sonoma County.” Councilman David Hagele added: “Councilmember Palacios, I see you right in front of me. People at home can see you and hear you, and so you are part of this meeting, you are part of this City Council.” (CBS San Francisco)
  3. The first of the fancy homes in the unfolding Mill District development on Healdsburg Avenue just south of the roundabout apparently just hit the market. Within the past week, a "garden home" condo was listed on Redfin for around $6 million and a "penthouse" apartment was listed for around $7 million. The three-bedroom, 4,500-square-foot penthouse has "dramatic glass walls" that "unite towering redwoods w/panorama of Fitch Mtn. & downtown," the listing says. And the garden home, also three bedrooms, is described as a "luxurious city residence" featuring two "elegant" levels, including a "garden terrace and water feature" on the ground floor. Both are situated on the elaborate Mill District campus, so they also have access to all of its "walking gardens, wellness center & pool, concierge services," etc. (Redfin & Redfin & Mill District)
  4. A local winery building called "House of Flowers" just won a big architecture award. It's located on the 13-acre Flowers Vineyards & Winery estate out Westside Road, and it has been named one of "the best buildings by American architects" at the 2021 American Architecture Awards — reportedly "the nation’s highest public award for new architecture and urban planning." The folks who created it say it's "an experience that reveals itself slowly" — the idea being to "always to make people feel comfortable, as if they were visiting a friend’s home in the countryside.” (Archinect & Walker Warner Architects)
  5. Here are the Healdsburg police logs for the month of November so far. They include reports of a "transient possibly living in the bathroom" of a building on Healdsburg Avenue; a drunk guy seen "hitting people with his elbows," also on Healdsburg Avenue; a "red Dodge doing donuts" near Grove and Chiquita; a dental patient who allegedly "walked out in the middle of getting a gold crown and did not pay"; "five to six electric bikes" on Healdsburg Avenue that "did not stop at the stop sign and almost hit" a pedestrian; someone who took advantage of "a bad card reader" at a Dry Creek Road gas station that "makes it so you can get gas without paying"; apparent water theft from a locked Grant Street backyard; a resident who rented a chainsaw from a Grove Street business and didn't return it for two months; "two alleged gang members... tagging concrete walls and slabs" on Ward Street; and more.
