Here are the top 3 stories today in Healdsburg:
- The person who died in the scary house fire on Prince Street last week has been identified as 26-year-old Chase McCann. He was one of six residents who reportedly lived in the home that burned â but the other five escaped alive. Firefighters were able to save a dog and a cat from the house, but three other cats and four birds died, according to the Press Democrat. The Sonoma County Sheriffâs Office and Healdsburg Fire Department are currently investigating how exactly McCann died and what caused the fire, respectively. But officials have said that "there did not appear to be fire alarms in the house." You can see some pics of the half-burned home in the PD. (Healdsburg Patch & Press Democrat; paywall)
- There's a new festival coming to Healdsburg this summer. It's called Songwriters in Paradise, or "SIP" for short, and organizers have previously hosted it in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Hope Town, South Africa. They describe SIP as a "boutique music festival series that showcases singer-songwriters performing in some of the worldâs most awe-inspiring destinations." The new Healdsburg version, hosted at various local wineries, is slated for July 18 through July 23. A one-night pass costs $425, and prices go up from there â ending with the "VIP all access" pass for a whopping $5,000. According to the Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce, SIP will be "a world class one of a kind experience featuring expertly paired wine & food choices from that evening's host vineyard along with two Bluebird Cafe style 'in the round' acoustic performances by the songwriters in the SIP Healdsburg line up." You can see the full list of artists and more info here. (Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce via Facebook & Songwriters in Paradise & Music Row)
- Healdsburg native Evelyn Parrish has reportedly passed away at age 88 "after a short battle with cancer." From her obituary: "Evelyn grew up at the end of Limerick Lane in Healdsburg. She attended Grant School and Healdsburg High School, Class of 1951. Evelyn met and married Bill Parrish in 1954, her best friend and love. They bought their life long home in 1955 and started their family." Later in life, Evelyn's "biggest pleasures... were attending her children and grandchildren's sporting events. She also loved caring for her beautiful yard and home. She was always a hard working woman and retired at age 75. She worked 40 years for Windsor Vineyards, from production line to Head of Customer Services." A memorial service will be held for Evelyn on the morning of Saturday, July 16 at Healdsburg's St. John the Baptist Church. "She was beloved by many and will be deeply missed," her obituary says.
